AN AMERICAN MELODRAMA:
The Presidential Campaign of 1968 |
NY: Viking Press |
1969 |
First BOMC
Edition. Fine Hardcover in Fine Dust Jacket Interior As
New, unmarked. 1/4" discoloration on outer page edge and
minute chipping at top of dj spine only. 8vo - over 7¾"
- 9¾". This large epic book contains an exhaustive index
plus 15 pages of preface and contents. Bright and crisp.
Black boards with wraparound red spine with bold black
and fine silver lettering. This is the entire story of
the fight for the White House in the midst of the
Vietnam War. "The struggle for the Presidency of the
United States -- by far the most powerful office in the
world -- was the most dramatic campaign in American
History. McCarthy's entrance into the race and Johnson's
exit, the tragically brief flare of Robert F. Kennedy's
effort, the fluctuating fortunes of Rockefeller,
Wallace, Reagan, Humphrey and Nixon, the moments of
decision in Miami Beach and in Chicago, the
post-convention campaigns, Chicago, and then the
incredibly close election itself--all these occurred in
a year of combat between the old and various kinds of
new politics, in a time of unprecedented domestic and
foreign crisis, with the American political system
itself in question and the occupancy of the White House
a crucial matte for every living creature on the globe."
(adapted from the liner notes). Henry Kissinger,
Clifford Case, George H. W. Bush and Donald Rumsfeld are
among hundreds of key figures cited. The three British
authors have both analyzed and synthesized the American
political experience.

1976 |
Hardbound First Printing. ME, ALICE: The Autobiography
of Alice Cooper. Authors: Alice Cooper and Steven
Gaines. NY: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1976. First Edition,
First Printing. This is considered one of the most
scarce Rock & Roll book titles. Hardbound in original
dust jacket which is not price-clipped. An ex-library
copy with minimal library stamps or markings, the book
measures 8.5"x5.75" and contains 254 pages with many
Alice Cooper photographs. Overall, ME, ALICE is
in Very Good-/Good+ condition. There are some pages with
small marks (1" or less) on them in pen or pencil that
were used as markers, but this is seen on only 12 of the
254 pages. None of the marks affect the legibility of
the text or the photographs. The slightly "crumpled"
appearance along the top of the hardbound cover spine is
a natural result of the book being opened and read.
There is minor chipping of the dust jacket only,
particularly seen along the inside flaps. The hardbound
cover is tight, though small residual tape marks may be
seen on front and rear covers where the dust jacket had
been attached. The rear end page indicates removal of
the library stamp card. The Seller states there is no
handwriting, watermarks, rips or tears to the book
interior. |
